Audio Video Service Labs offers a service program specially designed for vintage hi-fi products. Under this program, we can perform a full range of service ranging in a simple repair only to repair and restoration.
A restoration includes everything from cleaning the chassis to replacing interstage capacitors known to be troublesome with original or upgraded parts (such as Black Gate brand components). We look for noisy transistors, broken or cracked solder connections, upgrade the low voltage power supply regulator(s) and clean and if necessary, rebuild noisy switches and controls.
Finally, the outside of your piece of classic hi-fi is cleaned, the tuner fully and properly aligned. Many classics were enclosed in cases made of wood that rivaled the best furniture. If your classic has such a wooden cabinet, these can be rejuvenated in many cases.
For the FM DX'er, we can change the IF filters to narrower value, quality Murata components then align the tuner for optimal performance with the new filters.
Best results can be obtained with receivers, amplifiers, pre-amplifiers and tuners.
Successful repairs to mechanically based components, such as turntables, cassette and reel to reel tape decks usually depend on parts which are largely no longer available. Thus, even the most determined repair effort does not yield the best results.
